Suryapet is a major city and municipality in Nalgonda district in the state of Telangana. suryapet town has historical recognition as Gate way of Telangana. It is some times called Bhanupuri it lies on the National Highway 65 and is equidistant from the Hyderabad and Vijayawada.

Suryapet has attracted global attention for the transformation that has been brought by the 'effective solid waste management techniques adopted by the Suryapet Municipality.

Suryapet secured the ISO 14001-2004 certificate for establishing and maintaining an environment-friendly system for solid waste disposal. Suryapet is the first municipality in the country to receive such a certificate. The municipality bagged Greentech .

Foundation's Excellence Award and won the Supreme Court's appreciation for proper Solid Waste Management. The United Nations Human Settlements Programme lauded the initiative taken by the municipality as "good practice".
